Red Nose Day in the Information Store

You might have noticed something funny going on in the Information Store today....?

1. Information Store staff all wearing various shades of red.

2. Information Store staff brushing away the crumbs from their Red Nose Day cookies!

2. Students running round trying to work out the James Bond film with the longest title....

3. Last but by no means least - our resident face painter, Avril Wilkisnon, decorating students and staff with a variety of red noses, flowers, animal faces and glitter.

Make someone's day tomorrow. I'm not talking Valentines, I'm talking about giving an unwanted book to an underprivileged child.
 
Tomorrow is International Book Giving Day. Please bring in any preloved children's books to the Information Store desk, or SA103, and we will pass them on to a library that we work with in Dedza, Malawi.

One book can change a life – your chance to make a real difference!

Help us to make a difference by donating your unwanted books to Betterworld. You will be supporting education and literacy as well as keeping them out of landfill.

Please bring your books to the CCN Information Store and we will organise their collection by BetterWorldBooks - a global company that sells books online to fund literacy initiatives and which donates books worldwide.

Based on the 8,469 books which the CCN Information Store has sent to BetterWorldBooks so far, we have:

-       Raised £ 279.48 for a literacy charity

-   Raised £1,988.05 for the Norwich-Dedza partnership, funding school and college scholarships.

-   Saved 135.5 trees

-   Saved 17 cubic metres of Landfill Space

-   Saved 302,360 litres of water

-   Saved 27,930 KwH of electricity

-   Saved 5.4 Tons of greenhouse gasses

If you have any unwanted books at home, please bring them in to the Information Store!

Where does the money go?

Once BetterWorldBooks has covered their administrative costs, the proceeds from the book sales will be divided between two charities:  Norwich-Dedza Partnership and National Literacy Trust.

Norwich – Dedza Partnership is a charity that develops and supports practical links between Norwich, UK and Dedza in central Malawi. Projects undertaken so far have included educational  links, the promotion of tourism in Dedza, the sustainable development of a rock art site,  IT support and health promotion.

Facepainting is back!

Come into the Information Store on Friday 18th November from 10.30-12.00 to join in the fun and fundraising.

Maybe you will choose a Pudsey face or a spotty bandage?

Or will you get face-painted in the theme of Alice in Wonderland, ready for the SU Mad Hatters tea party? How about the Queen of Hearts or a Cheshire cat?

Minimum donations of £1.00 for Children in Need.

Red Nose Day fundraising

Avril Wilkinson from the Information Store raised money today for Comic Relief by running a sweepstake poster, and the lucky winner was Ali Page (pictured above left), also from the Information Store.

Thank you to all members of Student Services staff who helped raise a total of £52.00.
